Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, has escalated his engagement in the 2022 Republican primary elections as part of his effort to reshape the Republican Party in his image permanently.

Trump has gone above and beyond his public attempts to eliminate Republican lawmakers he views to be disloyal, working behind the scenes to clear any GOP challenges to his favored candidates and encouraging others to run against his adversaries.

North Carolina

According to people familiar with the situation, the former President enlisted the assistance of North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn to persuade former Rep. Mark Walker to abandon his Senate campaign and instead run for the House of Representatives.

This could benefit Trump’s preferred candidate in the Republican Senate primary, Rep. Ted Budd.

According to the White House, Trump has also had meetings with MAGA-aligned Republicans who are contemplating running against Republican governors with whom he has been disillusioned in…
