Once Upon A Time In Europe The Dutch Conquered Britain
Believe it or not, but the Dutch have once conquered the British
Throughout history, the Dutch and the English have had many conflicts and were involved in many as well. But one of them that’s quite unknown by many, even by the Dutch, is the Glorious Revolution. There was a moment when a Dutch man was in control of Britain, Prince William the Third of Orange.
In this period, there was a lot of political chaos in England and the rest of Britain, so what did happen that made it possible for a Dutchman to take the throne?
The Story Behind The Glorious Revolution
In the time of the revolution, like in many European countries, there was a huge battle going on regarding religion and faith.
Catholicism vs. Protestantism.
Many of us might know that the Anglican Church had a dominant majority in England at the time — the English church was a split off from Catholicism, so many of the used customs were adapted.
The English population was, therefor, mostly protestant.
But when the King of Scotland, James II, who was Catholic, also became the King of England, the conflict flared again.
