The French Election Is Over, Now What?
Now the real fireworks begin
First round of the French Presidential Election of 2022 is over, now what?
According to the French constitution, since there wasn’t a majority winner, we progress to the second round of the election that will be held on the 24th of April 2022.
Let’s quickly go through what happened yesterday.
It’s likely you didn’t follow the election results last night.
No problem.
Current President Macron won the first round by 27.8% of the votes, up against 23.1% of the votes for his biggest rival, Marine Le Pen, after counting 97% of the votes.
This means that those two will go up against each other in the second round.
What did the rest of the candidates do?
Good question. They’re more important than you think.
