Andy Fordham | EMPICS

When in 2005, Andy Fordham, the Viking, played Phil Taylor in an exhibition match, the crowd-favorite collapsed on stage due to health issues.

In 1962, the Viking was born in the British city of Bristol where he grew up and practiced athletics when he was in middle school.

Soon he found out about the darts and that was the start of a legacy: he won major prizes including the 2004 World Darts Championship where he beat Mervyn King in the final.

He Drank To Calm His Nerves

One legendary quote of Andy Fordham is the following, about his drinking habits:

“Before darts matches, I’d drink to calm my nerves. People assume alcoholics slur and fall all over the place, but I never drank to get drunk.”

As he told the Telegraph in 2005, he drank 25 bottles of Holsten Pils before a match to calm his nerves.

Many Health Scares

Andy Fordham has survived many health scares in his life, but in 2005, the world could watch him collapse on the oche in The Showdown game against Phil Taylor.
